Trusted Signal is Dave Hull's safe harbor, a place where he can share his fish tales (and you can too) about great catches and the ones that got away, tales of glass smooth seas and perfect storms. Hull's expertise, such as it is, comes from years of experience working in one of the largest and most open networks on the planet.

Hull has worked in a variety of technology positions including database and system administration, and software development. While working as a member of a software development team creating bleeding edge networking tools and applications, members of the team discovered a technique for performing passive OS fingerprinting by analyzing DHCP packets. Details of the technique were published in the February 2005 issue of Sys Admin magazine. The article will soon be available in the Publications section of the site.

One of Hull's core values is the belief that he can only do well by doing good. That's why he contributes to the information security community, provides financial support to the Electronic Frontier Foundation and contributes code to the Free and Open Source software movements. He supports the work of Lawrence Lessig and the Creative Commons and opposes innovation stifling software patents.
